Across the Kingdom, Moroccans have taken to the streets to protest a unprecedented rise in living cost and dwindling of purchasing power.<\/p>\n
Angry banners about the continued high prices of basic materials in Morocco drover protesters to the general, nationwide stand called organized by the Moroccan Social Front in front of the Parliament headquarters in the capital, Rabat, where the attendees called on the government to intervene to control prices in order to protect citizens\u2019 purchasing power.<\/p>\n
Similar to the capital, Rabat, protests called for by the Moroccan Social Front, a human rights bloc composed of unions and human rights associations, took place in protest against \u201chigh prices and social oppression,\u201d in 57 Moroccan cities, according to organizers.<\/p>\n
The participants in the organized vigil in front of Parliament expressed their rejection of the justifications provided by the government regarding the high prices, calling for \u201cpunishment of speculators and commodity monopolists, and justice for the oppressed citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dozens of protestors also attended a sit in in Casablanca the same night, to denounce the deterioration of Moroccans quality of life.<\/p>\n
The protesters shouted many slogans, through which they called on the government to take practical measures to reduce the impact of high prices, stressing that underprivileged groups can no longer afford bare necessities.<\/p>\n
The Moroccan Social Front called for simultaneous national protests throughout the country after Tarawih prayers were performed, in order to highlight the complex social situation many Moroccans have been suffering from for months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
