Tourism: Morocco, Kingdom of light, resilience and transparency

Despite the devastating earthquake that has struck several regions in Morocco, particularly Al Haouz province, the Moroccan tourism industry continues to operate normally. This is a result of an effective communication and the mobilization of all stakeholders of the sector.

In this way, we praise significant efforts of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, the National Tourism Confederation, and all tourism professionals whether hoteliers, travel agents, restaurateurs or guides, as well as the Presidents of the Regional Tourism Councils of all regions of the Kingdom, that have lent their voices to a video in which they remind the global tourism industry that the Moroccan tourism sector continues to operate normally and that all professionals in the sector are committed to ensuring the best tourist experience.

In fact, communication is crucial during times of crisis. Investing in clear and transparent communication strategies to keep tourists informed about the situation and safety measures is of paramount importance. Regular updates through various channels, including social media, press releases, and travel advisories, help manage tourists’ expectations and minimize uncertainty.

Furthermore, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, has announced on Monday that the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank will indeed take place as scheduled in Marrakech from October  9 to15 of this year. This statement further reassures potential tourists as well as all international collaborators in the tourism sector regarding the post-earthquake situation.

For the first time in 50 years, these meetings will be held on the African continent since Nairobi, Kenya. This significant gathering will bring nearly 14 000 delegates from 190 member countries of these two international institutions, including leaders from the public sector (central banks, ministries of finance and development, parliamentarians) and the private sector, as well as representatives from civil society organizations and experts from academia.

According to the IMF, Morocco will be a hub for discussing global issues at a time when cooperation is more vital than ever, with a particular focus on challenges and opportunities in Africa and the Middle East.

Similar to Morocco, several countries worldwide such as Japan, Italy, Greece and Turkey have demonstrated their resilience and successfully revitalized their tourism industries after devastating earthquakes. They have invested heavily in infrastructure, safety measures, as well as promotional campaigns.

Today, Morocco demonstrate that even in the face of adversity, the tourism industry can bounce back stronger and more resilient than before, offering travelers a safe and memorable experience.
