The Halieutis Show Returns for Its 7th Edition in Agadir, under the theme of Innovation and Fisheries Research

Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, the 7th edition of the Halieutis Show will take place from February 6 to 9, 2025, at the Agadir Exhibition Park, with the public being welcomed from February 8 to 9, 2025.Under the theme “Research and Innovation for a Sustainable Fishing Sector,” this edition underscores Morocco’s firm commitment to using scientific research as a strategic lever to ensure the sustainability of fisheries resources and the competitiveness of Moroccan fishing and aquaculture industries. The event brings together key stakeholders from the fishing, seafood processing, aquaculture, and fisheries research sectors, further solidifying its role as a major event on the global fisheries stage.

This flagship event, scheduled among major international exhibitions, is held on a 20,000 m² area at the Agadir Exhibition Park. It is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors and host more than 523 exhibitors from over 54 countries, including seven new participants, four of which are attending for the first time: South Korea, the United Kingdom, India, and the Sultanate of Oman.

“Since the inauguration of its first edition in 2011 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, the Halieutis Show has established itself as the essential meeting place for professionals in maritime fishing, as well as an essential reference for discovering the latest innovations in the sector,” said Mrs. Zakia Driouich, Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, in charge of Maritime Fisheries. The Secretary of State also stressed that: “the maritime fishing sector plays a crucial role in Morocco’s economy and social development, contributing to approximately 1.1% of the national GDP. Fisheries production reached approximately 1.42 MT in 2024 for a value of 16.2 billion dirhams. Likewise, it attracts significant foreign currency through its exports, having recorded in 2024 a turnover of approximately 27.4 billion dirhams and a record export turnover in 2023 of 31 billion dirhams, the sector also generates more than 260,000 direct jobs including 133,845 direct jobs at sea in 2023, which reflects its considerable socio-economic impact.

By selecting the theme “Research and innovation for a sustainable fisheries sector”, the Halieutis Show is part of a dynamic of reflection and action in the face of global challenges: climate change, scarcity of fisheries resources, changing consumption habits and the transition to a blue economy. This edition of perspectives to provide open concrete responses to support decision-makers in preserving the resource while supporting the diversification of production. It also facilitates the strengthening of partnerships between research institutes for sharing the best experiences and a common vision for the future.
