The renowned Moroccan singer Naïma Samih passed away late Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning, according to her family.

Born in Casablanca, the late Naïma Samih was the pioneer of modern Moroccan music, with a rich musical repertoire that gained widespread success across the Arab world.

The late singer began her career at a young age and made her first television appearance in the early 1970s, through the program “Mawaheb” hosted by the great composer, the late Abdenbi Jirari.

The artistic journey of the Moroccan music diva was marked by a remarkable diversity in her repertoire, which ranged from emotional ballads to patriotic and spiritual hymns.

She collaborated with renowned composers and poets, including Abdelkader Rachdi, Ahmed Alaoui, Ahmed Tayeb El Alj, and Ali Haddani.

Some of the late singer’s most famous songs include “Jrit W Jarit,” “Yak A Jarhi,” “Kif Lmaani,” and “LBhara,” along with other hits that achieved great popular success and were covered by Arab artists.

Naïma Samih was also the youngest Arab singer, the first Moroccan singer, and the third Arab artist to perform at the famous “Olympia” in Paris, following the greats Oum Kalthoum and Fairouz.
